R & R Harvesting Inc 90 Temporary workers needed in LaBelle, FL from approximately Nov. 25, 2014 – July 31, 2015 Following the Supervisors Instructions, the worker will be picking sack over their shoulder and carry an 18′ to 22′ ladder from the field truck to the particular area of the grove to be harvested.(Equipmenttools provided at no cost to worker) A fully loaded sack weighs approximately 80 and 100 pounds, depending upon the size, condition and variety of fruit. Worker positions ladder against the tree and within reach of the fruit in a leaning position, taking care not to break limbs, damage the tree knock off fruit, or interfere with other workers, in a secure position to prevent slipping or falling and possible injury to themselves or to other workers. Remove fruit from the tree and place into pick sack. When picking sack is full take full sack to fruit container located in the grove and drop fruit from pick sack into container. In order to perform this kind of work, worker must be able to work outside for at least 6 hours a day in all kinds of weather and be in possession of the requisite physical strength and endurance to repeat the picking process rapidly, working and skillfully with their hands , and carrying a large number of sacks of fruit from the area in which the fruit is being harvested to the location of the container. Perform manual labor to hand cut and pack watermelons. Use hand tools such as shears and knives. Duties also include cleaning, loading and unloading harvested products. Grade and sort products according to factors such as color, species, length, width, appearance, feel and quality to ensure correct processing and usage. Discard inferior or defective products andor foreign matter, and place acceptable products in containers for the further processing. Weigh products or estimate their weight, visually or by feel. Place products in containers according to grade and mark grades containers. Measure, weigh and count products and materials. Examine and inspect containers, materials and products to ensure that packing specifications are met. Clean and maintain work areas. Must assist with all Good, Agricultural Practices Policies. Perform prolonged bending, reaching, and lifting up to 60 lbs. Workers may be required to perform miscellaneous grove clean-up work. These activities may include removing ladders, debris, boxes, discard fruit from fields to clean growing area, pruning, painting trees, repair and or replace irrigation equipment, may maintain fence lines. Work behind Mechanical Harvester removing fruit using a 90 lb. picking sack. The highest of $10.26 per hour or applicable piece rate depending on crop activity, guarantee, 35 hours per week, housing and transportation provided at no cost to workers who cannot reasonably return to their permanent residence at the end of each work day, must be 18 years or older. Transportation and subsistence expenses to the work site will be reimbursed upon completion of 50% of the work contract or earlier if appropriate. Workers must have valid identification for I-9 preparation when they report to begin work.
